Senior TechAssist is based in Reston, and Northern Virginia is home. We help older adults in Fairfax County, Arlington, Loudoun, Alexandria, Prince William and nearby with phones, tablets, computers, TVs and online safety, at home or by phone and video.
This page explains who we help, what we help with, where we visit and how a visit works, so you know what to expect before you call.
Who we help
- Older adults who want to feel more confident with their own devices
- Adult children who live nearby, or far away, and want a parent supported without becoming the family help desk
- Couples where one person used to handle all the tech
- Senior living communities that want workshops for residents. See our community programs.
What we help with
Most visits involve one or more of these:
- Setting up a new phone, tablet or computer, and moving contacts and photos from the old one. See setting up a new iPhone for a parent.
- Making devices easier to use: bigger text, a simpler home screen, louder ringers and captions.
- Scam protection: blocking spam calls and texts, organizing passwords and turning on two-step sign-in. See how to block spam calls.
- Staying in touch: video calls, WhatsApp, and shared family photo albums.
- Email: cleaning up an inbox, recovering a hacked account, or setting up a new one.
- Home tech: Wi-Fi problems, printers, smart TVs and streaming apps, and smart speakers.
- Health tech: MyChart, telehealth visits, Medical ID and Apple Watch fall detection.
If it plugs in or connects to the internet, it’s probably something we can help with. If it’s outside what we do, we’ll say so.
Where we make home visits in Northern Virginia
Home visits with no travel fee cover:
- Fairfax County, including Reston, Herndon, Vienna, McLean, Oakton, Chantilly, Centreville, Fairfax, Annandale, Burke and Springfield
- City of Fairfax and Falls Church
- Arlington
- Eastern Loudoun: Sterling, Ashburn, Leesburg, South Riding, Brambleton and Aldie
We also visit, with a $35 travel fee:
- Alexandria
- The Mount Vernon, Lorton, Fort Belvoir and Kingstowne/Franconia areas of Fairfax County
- Western Loudoun
- Prince William County and Manassas, except Dumfries and Triangle
In those areas the travel fee is $35, added to your total when you book. You can check your ZIP code on our service area page. Remote help works anywhere, so a parent in Richmond, Florida or Ohio can still get help by phone or video.
How a home visit works
- Free 15-minute call. Tell us what’s going on. We’ll suggest a home visit, remote help or Scam Shield, whichever fits.
- You’ll know who’s coming. Your helper’s name and photo arrive before the visit.
- We work at your pace, on your own devices. No rushing and no jargon. We’d rather teach you to do it than just do it for you.
- Family is welcome. An adult child can join in person or by phone.
- Written steps left behind, so you can do it again next week without calling anyone.
Prices are published and agreed before we start. You pay in full by card, through a secure payment page, before your visit. Never by gift card.
Our safety promises
Older adults in our area get a steady stream of scam calls from fake tech support, fake Amazon and fake banks. So we hold ourselves to clear rules:
- We never call out of the blue. We only call if you’ve booked or asked us to.
- We never ask for passwords or payment by phone.
- No gift cards, ever. Anyone asking for gift cards isn’t us.
- Your passwords stay yours. We help organize them. We don’t keep them.
If someone claiming to be from any tech company calls you unexpectedly, hang up. Read more in tech support scams.
For adult children who live far away
Many adult children live out of state. Some families start with a home visit to set things up, then switch to regular remote check-ins. Our Family Tech Concierge plan offers scheduled sessions and family updates, so you know what was done without having to be on every call. See pricing for details.
Questions people ask before booking
Do I need to buy anything first? No. We work with what you already have. If something new would really help, we’ll explain the options and you decide.
Can you help with a Windows PC or a Mac? Yes, along with iPhone, Android, iPad and other tablets.
What if I don’t know what’s wrong? That’s fine. Describe what’s happening on the free call, and we’ll figure it out together.
Can you help a parent in assisted living? Often, yes. Let us know the community when you call, since some have visitor procedures.
When to get help
If you’re in Northern Virginia and something about your technology is frustrating, worrying or just unfamiliar, a short conversation is the easiest first step. Book a free 15-minute call, and we’ll recommend the right next step, even if that’s "you don’t need us for this."
